Abanthis: A Woman About Whom Nothing Is Known

Adapted From Ann Carson’s “If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho”
Created and directed by Amanda Culp ‘09 *

Abanthis explores the intersections of Greek, Indian and Western theater traditions, through the untold narrative of Women and Desire. For five weeks the ensemble will work with familiar stories from Greek mythology, the fragmented poetry of Sappho and traditional Indian performance aesthetics to create the story of Abanthis: A Woman About Whom Nothing is Known (title is excerpted from Sappho's Fragment 22).

Where: performed on the Heinlein Stage (located at the Center for Drama and Film)
When: February 27th at 8:00pm, and February 28th at 6:00pm and 9:00pm

Metamorphoses

Mary Zimmerman’s Tony award-winning play metamorphoses utilizes post-modern storytelling techniques to refashion ovid’s ancient myths. Metamorphoses explores the elemental and poetic aspects of these time-worn tales while underscoring the difficult, yet salutary, nature of change and changing. The Experimental Theater of Vassar College is excited to stage this profound and dreamlike production, and invites you to come and lose yourself in this performance.

Badass: Fighting From Never/Land

Adapted from J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy

Created, directed and choreographed by Julianna Allen ‘09*

A new theatrical adaptation of the novel, Peter and Wendy, by J. M. Barrie. This exploration into the unique world that Peter Pan inhabits and defines, takes flight, and fights along with and in between the lost boys, indians, pirates, and animals. Never/Land examines the connections of our childhood escapes with the roles we inhabit as adults.
