Drama Department

The play begins with Circusmaster Henry, a fallen angel, introducing himself to us.   He and three other angels—Raphael, the Fireman, and the Watchman—are demoralized.   They have been stuck on earth for centuries, and unable to help human beings.   No matter what they do, people still treat each other badly.The Circusmaster has decided that he can only serve humankind by telling a good story. The Adventures of Haarlem Berlin takes place in a mythical upstate New York, in time of a civil war.   The story—how Haarlem Berlin won at Macpheter’s Gap—will be, he hopes, inspirational and distract us from our troubles.
